Production Embedded UIs: What is Your Test Team Missing?
A massive wave of user interfaces with increasingly complex code is on the way ? with rapidly expanding features and depth. Additionally, since development passes from artists to engineering down to embedded hardware there are countless ways for errors to be introduced. Companies producing such devices spend almost half of their development time in product testing. How can companies ensure that their UI running on hardware is a perfect match to their developer's intent design? With so many screens to review and compare, it is physically impossible to manually run through all those screens and features, using only the human eye to spot minute differences and achieve comprehensive testing. Such testing will be plagued by human error, false positives and severe schedule overruns. In this presentation, Altia will review popular methods for embedded UI testing. Camera-based test systems, manual test systems and more technically advanced approaches will be considered. Each has intriguing potential and problematic pitfalls. Altia will examine methods for embedded UI testing that will meet the impending UI test demands. Altia will detail a state-of-the-art method that compares baseline UI designs with the same UI running on real-world embedded hardware and provides a pixel-by-pixel comparison of the model in a fraction of the time of other test methods.
