Benchmarking with ultra-low-power microcontrollers - useful or superfluous?
Measuring the energy efficiency of a microcontroller without peripheral functions is only conditionally useful.
Up to now, the ULPBench developed by EEMBC did not include any peripherals. Nevertheless, it was not meaningless, since the implementation of the memory subsystem and different CPU architectures can be compared. An extension of the ULPBench, called ULPMark, also takes into account the first peripheral blocks, but there are limits to the useful operation of a benchmark.
