There are different types of LCD drivers:
- Chip On Board (COB): The driver is placed on the LCD-PCB and is potted. It is mostly used at character displays. One ore more Driver-ICs are placed at one Module. At dot-matrix LCD modules, it will be replaced mostly with COG.
- Chip On Film (COF): This driver is put on a thin and flexible foil substrate. It is especially convenient for low space situations or very high resolutions.
- Chip On Glass (COG): Flip Chip at ITO glass. Voltage generation and different interfaces like 8-Bit parallel, 4-wire/3-wire serial or I2C interface are often integrated. Few extrenal components are needed.
- Tape Carrier Package (TCP): Similar like COF, but less flexible and cheaper.
