Single Pair Ethernet Filter Design
Beginning in the automotive industry, Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) is about to enter the wider industrial market. With this change, filter design needs to adapt. Outside the automotive, the SPE isolation requirement according to IEC62368 is 1500V/60s. The commonly used 50V isolation caps cannot fulfil this requirement. Instead of using large and expensive isolation caps, Würth Elektronik recommends signal transformers specially designed for high bandwidths. With additional Common Mode Chokes, TVS diodes and caps, a full filter solution, capable for a stable signal transfer up to 600 MHz (1000 Base-T1) can be realized. The presentation shows examples and detailed measurements for the filter design from connector to PHY chip to fulfil all necessary EMI and safety requirements according to IEEE 802.3bw (100 Base-T1) and IEEE802.3bp (1000 Base-T1).
