Privacy & Security Implications for IoT Platforms in Large Scale Utility Deployment
Smart grid and smart meters adoption is growing rapidly as companies encounter increasing security regulations, a need to automate readings and remotely confirm service status. It is expected that there would be more than 2.5 Billion IoT smart devices in utilities by 2023. The unprecedented growth makes it a growing target for cybercriminals; exposing individuals, their data and their privacy to risk if left unaddressed. New deployments are requiring utility solution providers to support end-to-end security in the next generation of smart meter€™s.In order to ensure threat mitigation at each stage of a smart meter€™s life cycle, we need to answer key questions, €¢ How to include root of trust in each smart meter when millions of devices are getting deployed? €¢ How to ensure the data communication between the device and the cloud is private? €¢ How to trust that the firmware update source? This session will discuss the privacy and security implications for utilities deployment at scale.
