Model-Based Systems Engineering for Cybersecurity
Once upon a time, many years ago, systems security was a matter of physical locks and barriers, and cybersecurity was solely a concern of business computers. Embedded systems were isolated and either operated independently or using highly specialized communication protocols and networks. Today, however, computation in systems is ubiquitous and the problems of security of physical things has merged with the concerns of computerized systems. It is clear, as well, that the only effective was to have secure systems is the engineer them to be so, using a combination of engineering disciplines. Unfortunately, few systems engineers are trained in how to reason about security methods and needs. This is a crucial point because the systems engineers are responsible for the system level requirements and the overall system architecture. It is an important question as to how the security considerations are merged with the other kinds of systems information. This talk addresses security from a systems point of view, emphasizing the modeling of security concerns and the integration of those models with other aspects of systems. Presented by the author of the best selling Agile Systems Engineering.
