Interactive Display Systems – Functions, Key Features and Components for Future Trends
VIA optronics is a provider of interactive display system solutions that include touch panels based on its unique copper metal mesh touch sensor solution. Customized solutions are available for automotive, industrial and consumer electronic applications, enabling gesture-swipe and finger sliding in combination with haptic/force, recognition of operator gesticulations, driver monitoring, and face recognition. Via optronics interactive display systems feature the following functions, key features and components: 1. Projected Capacitive Metal Mesh Touch Sensor in sizes from 1' to 86” independent of display resolution and technology. Developed in-house by VIA optronics and qualified according to automotive standards. 2. Hover / Gesture Function - in-air hand movements of one or more users are tracked to detect gestures and provides natural interaction and enjoyment of use. The following gestures can be implemented: ? Approach Wake-Up is used to wake up displays when the hand reaches the detection area. - Flick is available as a flip or edge flick in four directions. It is often used for commands such as next-previous, on-off, or up-down. - Air-Wheel is an intuitive input for up-down settings for levels and values. Both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotations can be captured. - Wave registers small finger movements and differences in the X and Y directions. Example applications include Random Playback Control in the audio device. - Hold detects a steady hand to trigger events; it is best thought of as a non-contact enter key. The timing is configurable. - Presence enables features such as intelligent backlighting based on the proximity of the user’s hand to the screen. - Position tracking is available on the VIA touch controller and detects the current hand-object position. - Swipe can be used to transfer applications between displays or to operate a multimedia system - 2-5 fingers direct input for specific functions (e.g., song change, menu navigation, screen scrolling, etc.) 3. Proximity Function - detects presence of the hand or object in the defined area. 4. Haptic and Force Feedback - realized with high quality and thin piezo elements. The haptic control can provide many extended intensity and frequency ranges (fixed or adjustable by operator). Clear and fast response. Excellent signal stability and frequency/intensity accuracy. Acceleration 1.5-50G. Many different waveforms possible. 5. Finger Sliding - realized with the high-quality capacitive metal mesh touch sensor from VIA. Very high resolution and precision. Fast reaction times and excellent signal stability. Usable for adjusting the volume and brightness, screen/toolbar scrolling, screen zoom, etc. Easily and innovatively combined with haptic and force. 6. Integrated Camera - Usable for live video conferencing, and operator detection and monitoring. Certain functions and commands can be triggered by observing operator gesticulation (e.g., movement of eyes, mouth, nose, etc.). - Driver monitoring in automotive applications: tiredness, sleepiness, lack of concentration (e.g., SMS, talking on mobile phone, speaking with other passengers, eyes not on the road, etc.) - Facial recognition – useful for access control in defined areas (e.g., office, factory, house, private zone, bank, ATM, computer, etc.) 8. Network Interface - VIA interactive display systems can be integrated into several different Networks.
