Change Based Requirements Management
Looking a bit deeper into development organizations, it is obvious that products usually are not developed on a green field from scratch. In most cases new products are enhancements of existing products or versions and variants of these and so they are simply changed. Basically said, all development efforts are driven by changes. And change does not start in the implementation or coding phase, but much earlier in the product planning phase, where requirements management comes into play. In order to work efficiently, already existing artifacts are subject to be changed - and this of course also counts for the supporting tools which manage the development process. Everybody knows this approach and the corresponding buzzwords like releases, checkpoints, baselines, variants, versions, change lists, etc. from source code Management. But why should it not be possible and reasonable enough to apply these useful approaches also the the area of requirements management? How can we use baselines or variants for the planning of requirements and not only retrospectively? Or how can planned changes for a certain release explicitely be specified and applied to an existing requirements document? Until now it was cumbersome and combined with manual effort or additional tool programming/scripting to enable a controlled change process also in the requirements management area. agosense will show new possibilities for change based requirements management with agosense.fidelia in order to make the development processes manageable in a more efficient way. This presentation with discuss the following approaches amongst others: - requirements management with so called 'Change Sets' as a planning instrument - branching and variant stragegies for requirements documents - controlled parallel edition of documents - complete integration of requirements management in the overall development process.
