Which Graphic Software Library Should I Use for My Embedded Device?
By and large, most of the embedded HMIs in the market have processors based on either ARM® Cortex-A or Cortex-M series and Intel®. However, when it comes to choosing a graphic software library for an embedded HMI, there is a plethora of options available for developing embedded GUIs but not enough literature that provides relevant information which would aid product managers and UI/UX designers/developers in selecting an appropriate graphic software library. A simple web search for embedded graphic software libraries returns a long list of results. To provide a defined scope for this presentation, we will be focusing on those graphic software libraries that provide a user interface similar to that of smartphones since such user interface have started to become a ‘de-facto standard’ in the embedded market. In the presentation, we will discuss the main factors that influence the decision behind selecting a graphic software library. We will consider the different design and development tools that support the development with the software libraries. The presentation will also cover aspects such as productivity, re-usability and ease of maintenance. Expected performance, portfolio of ready-to-implement UI controls, skinning and theming etc. will also be covered. We hope that decision makers will benefit from this presentation when considering different graphic software libraries and aid in selecting an appropriate library for their next generation graphical user interface.
