Using Google Test for Safety Sensitive Software Development Vortragssprache Englisch

With the explosion of connected devices and recent advancements of AI and its applications into functions such as autonomous driving, the amount of safety-sensitive software has grown exponentially. It is becoming more difficult to avoid software certification, as more and more modules of the project must follow rigorous criteria of safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or DO 178B/C. As a result, software must be rigorously tested. Users have a wide choice of commercial unit testing tools and open source frameworks, and while commercial tools are usually prepared to meet safety-related development requirements, open source frameworks require adaptation and investment before they can be used in this kind of development environment. On the other hand, advanced functionalities quite often rely on open source libraries, which are available with unit test cases written in open source frameworks such as Google Test. Reusing these tests provides significant savings in project budget. In this paper, we will discuss the essential elements of the unit testing environment in safety-sensitive projects, and how to augment open source unit testing frameworks to successfully certify the software. During this presentation, you will learn: - The essential elements of a unit testing framework required by safety standards - The pros and cons of leveraging open source unit testing frameworks (e.g. Google Test) - Best practices and additional tooling to produce required certification artifacts
