Safety Analysis for Embedded Systems Development
Software-centric cyber-physical systems are assuming an ever-increasing role in the control of potentially dangerous equipment while managing confidential information. This applies to fly-by-wire aircraft, nuclear power plants, industrial control systems, power generation as well as smaller-scale devices, such as drive-by-wire automobiles, microwave ovens, and medical equipment. The integration of dependability analysis, which includes safety, security, and reliability, with the system engineering workflow is crucial. This talk discusses model-based approaches for safety analysis to specify appropriate quality of service requirements and allocate them into the generated system specifications. This talk will discuss safety analysis with FTA and the capturing of safety- and reliability-relevant metadata with an eye towards the specification of relevant requirements and architectures to meet those needs. The UML FTA Profile and UML Profile for Security analysis will be discussed in this context as well as the Harmony Systems Engineering practices that employ them.
