New Development Paradigms for Smart IoT
Why shouldn't building and managing a fleet of IoT devices be as easy as building web services? This is the premise under which developers now start their embedded projects. Rather than drawn-out proof of concepts (PoCs) with undefined goals, building an IoT device should be a streamlined process from concept to production, production to distribution, with the capability for continuous software development in the field. The role of the development team is made even more complex by the increasing complexity of the software stacks as more intelligence is added to devices: reliance on an increasing number of third party libraries, new development paradigms to deal with ML models and increasing pressure to provide long term security to name a few. To adapt to this new intelligent embedded world developers turn to ways of working that are proven on the cloud side: certified hardware, open-source software, continuous integration, continuous deployment and securely packaged and isolated applications. All contribute to accelerating device go to market while improving stability, security and satisfaction in the field.
