How to Implement Appropriate Processes for License Compliance?
Traditionally, innovative concepts and processes undergo a typical way of how they enter a company: Presentation, evaluation, decision-making and introduction. In the case of Open Source-Software this traditional strategy is disrupted, since often Open Source-Software is silently introduced by engineers and, since no immediate costs are involved, by-pass the final barrier of the purchase department. However, redistribution of Open Source-Software as part of an industrial product, requires a company-wide strategy and processes that involve not only the management that is responsible for the legal compliance with respect to copyright law, but also many other departments such as legal, quality assessment, software purchase, documentation etc. In order not to reinvent the wheel for the introduction of such company processes standardized approaches are available and may be adapted to a particular company’s requirements. This presentation provides an overview of processes and their implementation to reach Open Source software license compliance.
