Class 6.1: The Bruce Douglass Class 1 Modeling

Everything you Always Wanted to Know About Flowcharts and Activity Diagrams Vortragssprache Englisch

The UML and SysML provide very good tools for specifying behavior application systems. Behavior may be specified for individual classes, subsystems, components and use cases with state machines and activity diagrams. Behavior may also be specified for elements acting in collaboration using interactions using sequence and collaboration diagrams. This workshop focuses on Activity diagrams. Activity diagrams were isosemantic with state machines in UML 1.x but were used almost exclusively to model algorithms. We significantly enhanced activities in UML 2.x so that they model token-execution semantics, a far more general model of computation. Further, activity diagrams have been further enhanced to support modeling behavior that is continuous in both time and value in the SysML standard. Rhapsody supports both the full token-execution and continuous semantics of in UML and SysML but also provides a highly constrained subset – flowcharts – for algorithmic modeling. Because of the complexities and capabilities of modern activity diagrams, they are poorly used and ill-formed in most models. This workshop will provide the conceptual and experiential basis for using activity diagrams and flow charts in your system and software models.
