Embedded Vision Solutions - State of the Art, Options and Applications Vortragssprache Englisch

Being truly a pioneer in the field of embedded vision, we are happy to see how EMBEDDED VISION becomes more and more important. Today, intelligent vision systems are in the spotlight like never before! Of course, “autonomous driving” being a huge topic all over the media, is mainly the reason for that. To succeed in the field of autonomous driving enormous processing power is necessary and only recently this power could be achieved technically with the hardware. Additionally, the ratio of performance and pricing became attractive at the same time. The “deep learning algorithmic is another essential precondition for autonomous driving. However, autonomous driving is only a small part of Embedded Vision – sometimes it makes sense to differentiate between Embedded Vision and Embedded Machine Vision. Both have a lot in common, but also show significant difference: The general conditions are completely different and require thus a completely different algorithmic. In industrial surroundings, all conditions are usually determined and invariable – e.g. no or only few environmental influence, but instead constant lighting, fix resp. identified working distance, even the parts to be inspected are known beforehand. Vision Components has been technology driver in the field of Embedded Vision since more than 21 years and truly gained experience in all applications imaginable – just like autonomously driving cars. Embedded Machine Vision systems are in use in every industry and for all applications: e.g. decoding, robotics, 3D, and many more. It is a fact, it’s the same technology, that is also used for autonomous driving. For more than two decades, Smart Cameras are the basis to design a stand-alone, light-weight, compact, extremely energy-efficient (industrial) imaging system. It is not a question of either-or, if using a PC-based solution or a embedded solution, because it is essential to evaluate, what is the ideal solution for the task at hand. This lecture outlines options and applications with embedded vision solutions as well as the basics of embedded vision systems: what do they consist of and what are they capable of in terms of hardware and software.
