Dynamic LWM2M Data Model Mapping to OPC UA
Integrating smart sensors into production facilities is the basis of Industry 4.0. However, this is a challenging task, especially when it comes to the integration of sensor systems and devices from different manufacturers. One possibility would be to use unified standards, like -the widespread OPC UA. However, it might be too costly with regard to required hardware resources and implementation complexity , if each sensor is equipped with its own OPC UA interface. Thus, a general integration approach capable of integrating different sensor nodes into a central generic OPC UA server is essential. Lightweight Machine to Machine (LwM2M) protocol is a basis to connect sensors with limited resources over the IP protocol with the benefit of supporting data models describing the sensor data. For full system integration ? also into OPC UA based systems ? we developed an automated mapping of Smart Objects (IPSO) data model into the OPC UA information model at connection time as well as the data at runtime. This approach allows the user to implement sensor nodes as LwM2M clients that connect to our server. With our generic OPC UA server, it is easy to integrate different sensors without touching the server implementation itself. The only requirement is to provide IPSO files describing the sensor data. In our talk, we will present a general overview of sensor interfaces with a technical deep dive into our open source implementation of LwM2M to OPC UA data model mapping.
