Context-Aware Smart Home – Opening the Eyes of AI in the Home Through Sensors
Developments in edge computing, applications favoring smart assistants, new classes of sensors and the emerging prevalence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are all reasons why industry experts expect smart home adoption to continue to flourish across the globe. Developments in IoT technology including increased processing power, decreased battery consumption and enhanced range of mesh networks are working together to enable smart homes to enter a new era of contextually aware systems. The next-generation smart home will leverage machine learning and rely on stronger, more robust devices with longer lifecycles capable of processing information ranging from occupancy, temperature, humidity and other environmental factors from both in and outside the home. Access to this data is what enables context-aware systems to deliver advanced smart home applications and services. Advancements in battery life and transmission range means this new class of sensors can be embedded into drywall or installed in various, previously inaccessible, locations throughout the home providing data sets that the context-aware smart home can use to better control and protect the home. This session will explore the new capabilities of context-aware smart home systems, expanding upon the technical elements for building these new devices including what to consider when designing the products that will inspire and enable the next-generation smart home.
