Consistent Test Reuse Across MIL->SIL->HIL in a Model-Driven Development Workflow
A common problem encountered within embedded software development projects that utilize the Model-Driven Development (MDD) methodology is that tests are not reusable across the various MIL->SIL->HIL verification test benches. This paper explores industry standards, tools, and techniques that effectively support the reuse of Verification and Validation (V&V) suites across MIL->SIL->HIL test benches. An overriding tenet is to not treat the different 'In-the-Loop' configurations as useful only during certain engineering project phases but rather treat them as different levels of abstraction of a system that are useful throughout an engineering project. The paper presents a systematic automated MDD workflow that allows automotive developers to develop their production ECU verification suites early during software modeling, and reuse them throughout the engineering project through to production ECU testing, and ultimately for regression testing of their future software updates.
