Chains of Trust: Building Security into Today’s Digital World Vortragssprache Englisch

The connected device landscape is expanding rapidly. New devices are being connected to different cloud platforms, new device operating systems are being created and digital services are being developed. Yet not all devices are secure enough to protect against attacks, and the lack of standardized security poses a significant risk across the ecosystem. As IoT devices become more complex and expand into new markets (automotive, wearables etc.) cybercriminals will follow. Analysts forecast cyberattacks will cost the world up to $6 trillion annually by 2021 . IoT diversification therefore poses a real security challenge for service providers and device manufacturers; not just in protecting sensitive data and infrastructure but also revenue and reputation. If security isn’t foundational, seemingly innocuous devices like lamps, refrigerators and cameras can become the platform for attacks. Devices therefore need to be built on a proven security foundation, leveraging existing and readily available security services. A long way off, right? Wrong. For the IoT, GlobalPlatform proposes a new initiative to solve right now the issue of securing devices, regardless of whether the device is used in the edge, fog or the cloud. Its Device Trust Architecture provides a security framework that can be used by all actors to achieve standardized and secure devices and services, offered by GlobalPlatform secure component technology.
