Automotive Domain Consolidation – Security Challenges Persist
As the IoT continues to evolve, industries are seemingly being transformed overnight. One such industry, industrial automation, a subset of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has seen significant transformation. High value content now flows throughout the IIoT through multiple complex device paths with numerous connectivity options. All of these connected devices, which broadly include end node devices, gateways, mobile devices, and cloud connections, increase the surface area for a security breach or a potential cyber attack. This presentation looks at the combination of open source software and real-time operating systems running together on the same hardware platform. Approaches for 'designing in' security on the hardware will be discussed as well as software-enabled security. This presentation includes a demo highlighting how the NXP i.MX6 IoT gateway works seamlessly with a cloud services platform and demonstrates the design options for secure and seamless data transmission from end node device, to gateway, to cloud – even to a handheld smartphone.
