Arm® CoreSight™ Embedded Logic Analyzer – Enhanced SoC trace capture and logic analysis
Arm Embedded Logic Analyzer improves SoC hardware signal visibility and simplifies the debug process, as well as monitoring system transaction behaviour to aid with accessing more of the available SoC performance.
In the past, it was possible to use logic analyzers to gain visibility to interfaces when CPUs, buses, GPUs, and memory controllers were separate components on a board. SoCs today are highly integrated and complex, and as a result they are hard to debug. The two areas that are specifically challenging to debug are device lockups and data corruption. Without having observability into the SoC, the debug cycle can be very inefficient and potentially unsuccessful. Arm® CoreSight™ Embedded Logic Analyzer (ELA) serves to increase debug visibility by strategic placement on the SoC, to help isolate areas of a design that might potentially be causing issues as well as offering insight as to performance bottlenecks. The latest generation of the Embedded Logic Analyzer IP offers architectural improvements to cater for high performant and more complex SoCs, which typically also require higher tracing bandwidth and storage. A number of newly introduced features expands ELA usage beyond SoC debug and into performance monitoring, all of which combines to shortened debug cycles, improved system performance reduced time to market.
