Agile Software Development and ISO26262
Recently the Harvard Business Review1 praised Agile methods saying they have greatly increased success rates in software development, improved quality and boosted productivity. Yet there is a persistent belief that Agile is unsuitable and an excuse for undisciplined behavior when applied to developing software for embedded systems in regulated industries. This presentation challenges this perception and shows how being lean and agile can be blended with conformance to standards such as IEC 61508 or ISO26262 to deliver real business benefit. However, balancing agile practices with conformance expectations is not a simple and effortless pursuit. It requires a deep understanding of the intent behind both approaches. Illustrated by real life case studies this talk demonstrates where agile techniques can most usefully applied and importantly where they should not be used.
