Insight SIP offers RF solutions based on Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB) technology for precise positioning applications. UWB provides both unparalleled precision (+/-10cm accuracy) and a far more secure method of detecting proximity, with most existing methods being relatively easy to hack.
UWB positioning works by measuring the time of flight of a well-defined pulse between two modules, or alternatively, the time of flight between a tag and set of (time synchronised) anchors. This vastly improves security over signal strength-based proximity (as is used in current vehicle keyless entry systems, for example), as signal strength methods are easily bypassed by simple signal relay boost techniques.
Insight SIP’s 1510 RF module for UWB combines BLE and UWB modules. It uses the Decawave DW1000 for the UWB radio and contains the Nordic 52832 BLE device for the BLE radio and the application processor. The RF module integrates antennas for BLE and UWB and is certified for global markets. It is in 9 x 16 x 1.9 mm format and is the smallest solution of its type on the market. It is thus ideal for any wearable or other form factor limited application.
Among the many IoT and Industry 4.0 based applications that can benefit from UWB RF solutions are secure access systems, security bubble, indoor positioning, asset tracking, real-time location applications and sports performance tracking.
Insight SIP has an ongoing development program for UWB technology including high gain directional antennas and wirelessly synchronised anchors.
