The TLAxx-03KCAN and TLAxx-03K485 series components consist of a transceiver for CAN or RS-485 with an isolated signal path and a power supply, also with two isolated outputs for the TTL and bus side of this path.
The transceivers have the functionality of a conventional CAN or half-duplex RS-485 interface and are also equipped with potential separation designed for 1,500 VDC in their signal path. They are suitable for buses with up to 110 (CAN) or 128 (RS-485) participants and support baud rates up to 1 Mb/s (CAN) or 500 kb/s (RS-485). While the bus side of the signal path is already supplied with 5V internally, the TTL side can be operated with a choice of 3.3V or 5V via the VDD connection.
The power supply is designed for especially broad direct or alternate input voltage ranges and permits direct connection to the 230VAC mains voltage amongst others. It delivers a primary output voltage of 3.3V, 5V or 12V that can be used either directly or via a linear regulator (LDO) for supplying the TTL side, and a secondary output voltage of 5V that is already connected internally as the supply for the bus side of the signal path. Aside from the transceiver, both outputs can also supply components of the adjacent circuit with electricity if necessary. Potential separation of the power supply is designed for 4,000VAC (between the input and outputs) and 1,500VDC (between the outputs).
The TLAxx-03KCAN and TLAxx-03K485 transceivers are compact open-frame modules with an especially high power density. The allowable operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. Since they are equipped with three standard plug connectors, they are also suitable for automatic assembly. The new isolated CAN and RS-485 transceivers can be used for various applications in industrial environments where a galvanic connection in the signal path is not permitted.
