In recent years the connectivity in the car has continuously been increasing.  Thus the components act as autonomous participants in a network rather than being controlled by a central unit.

Usual testsystems test control units by measuring electrical signals. Therefore the results are not representativ.

The AED testsystems are pursuing a new approach by testing control units exactly as they are built in to the car later. Based on the highperfamnce PXI Platform the system simulates the whole network including the restbus and electrical signals.

 The test software used for visualizing is NI VeriStand while TestStand is used for test management. The combination allows the adaption according to customer requirements.  

The new approach is demonstrated by three examples:

The headlightsystem simulates different situations during driving and uses image processing to correctly validate the functions of the control unit. The camera controls if the light distribution is displayed correctly according to the incoming electrical systems. Because of this software-based appraoch this system can be modified for any type of headlight or taillight without chamnging the hardware setup.

Using the multipurpose-tester it is possible to test the functions of fully digital multipurpose-instruments. During testing the responsible CAN-Bus is being monitored whilst a camera is checking continuously if all parameters are shown correctly on the display. The system is built in a way that allows it to install and use it inside a car. Thus a test under real conditions during a test run is possible. Using a configuration program different multipurpose-instruments can be added comfortably.
