Innovation based on agile series development
"What is still a long way off in the car is now becoming reality in the truck: the new generation of the Mercedes truck "Actros" refrains from conventional exterior mirrors and instead looks back with camera eyes.", kicker magazine wrote on 8 September 2018 about the high-tech mirror replacement system of the new Mercedes Actros. (http://www.kicker.de/news/auto/neuheiten/startseite/731273/artikel_mercedes-truck-actros_kameras-statt-aussenspiegel.html). As a cooperation partner of MEKRA Lang, we are proud to be part of this pioneering innovation.
Solectrix, along with MEKRA Lang, is helping shape the future of indirect sight for utility vehicles through mirror replacement systems. The camera monitor system offers several advantages over common truck rear-view mirrors:
- It reduces fuel consumption. The use of small, flow-optimized camera arms instead of the large-format truck side mirrors improves aerodynamics and thus reduces fuel consumption.
- It increases safety: The system offers a much better all-round visibility and thus increases traffic safety on the roads. This is made possible by the use of High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology in image acquisition and processing.
- It creates the prerequisite for future driver assistance functions like, e.g., turning assistant.
As a cooperation partner we provide the central image processing software which handles the data read out from the HDR sensors at 60 frames per second with a very low latency.
In project management and software development, Solectrix relies entirely on agile methods. The iterative approach on all levels enables us to manage the balancing act between the adherence to automotive norms, e.g., ASPICE and ISO 26262, and the greatest possible flexibility regarding changing customer requirements. The prototyping of image processing algorithms is done within a specially developed reference tool which also serves as the base for verification in series development.
