The Ensiro program
In the Ensiro program, the Application Center Wireless Sensor Technology of Fraunhofer IIS develops customer-specific prototypes and demonstrators in the field of environmental sensor technology together with industrial partners. The different components are developed and combined in several projects. These include the Ensiro Evaluation Kit (EVA Kit) and the air pollution measuring station EnsiroEMMA.
Determination of the added value of sensors in productive environments
The Ensiro EVA Kit is a complete package of hardware, software, heuristics and related consulting services. The aim is to show customers how environmental sensors can be used in corporate environments and production infrastructures. The system reveals potential for process improvements and error reductions. Over a period of three to six months, customers can use the system without obligation on a rental basis. The application center is responsible for installation, technical support and evaluation of the measurement data as well as the design of derived measures.
Through the use of wireless and energy saving transmission technologies, such as the Fraunhofer MIOTY protocol, a large number of sensor stations can be connected to a network. The radio module has a modular design, so that further connection options such as 5G and NB IoT can be used in the future. The sensors of the EVA kit are also variable. By default measurement units are air pressure, humidity and air temperature. In addition, various sensors can be connected via the I2C bus that operate with a supply voltage of 3.3/5V. This makes it possible, for example, to measure nitrogen oxides or the fine dust content in the ambient air. In order to guarantee a high quality of the sensor values, the housing is individually adapted to each location and application.
Measurement of air pollutants with high accuracy
With the stationary measuring system EnsiroEMMA we offer a very compact, cost-effective possibility to measure air gas concentrations. The environmental station can be used very flexibly due to various wired and wireless interfaces. In addition to air temperature, air pressure and humidity, it measures the concentration of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2), ozone (O3), sulphur compounds (H2S and SO2) and carbon monoxide (CO). All measurement data are recorded with a very high accuracy, which at least corresponds to the values specified in the 39th Bundesimmissionsschutzverordnung (BImSchV). Through persistent, long-term data collection, precise statistics can be compiled and extensive evaluations carried out. Data can be retrieved via a web application or existing software solutions with visualization functions.
Technically outstanding is an automatically scaling measuring range for maximum accuracy at low and high gas concentrations. Furthermore, the exact control of sensor temperature and air flow ensures reliable measurement results even with changing environmental parameters. In addition, there is a housing developed individually for different customer requirements. The measuring station can be connected to existing network infrastructures either via Ethernet, Wifi, USB or the LTE mobile radio standard, which makes the system flexible even in remote areas.
