Toposens launched “TS Alpha” in June 2018.
Ultrasound technology provides many interesting characteristics, that have not been combined into any other 3D sensor yet. With the TS Alpha sensor unit, Toposens launched the worldwide first 3D ultrasound sensor that detects people and objects in 3D in real time. The sensor sends out ultrasound signals that are reflected by the surrounding objects and immediately get translated into 3D coordinates in the sensor itself, without requiring additional hardware. By combining standard hardware components put together in a special layout with proprietary algorithms, machine vision and AI-software, the system is capable of generating a 3D point cloud of its near-field environment, and tracking the position of any static or dynamic object.
Fields of application range from robotics and consumer electronics to general ultrasound test cases for the near field. Through further processing of the received raw data (in the form of point clouds) valuable information for collision avoidance, people detection or movement monitoring can be deduced. The 3D ultrasound sensor already comes with an additional software layer to cluster the raw data of the point cloud and thus making it available for further analysis.
