the nRF52840 System-on-Chip is an advanced, highly flexible ultra-low power multiprotocol SoC ideally suited for ultra low-power wireless applications such as advanced wearables, connected smart home and IoT sensor networks. It incorporates a high-performance multi-protocol radio for Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth 5), ANT, 802.15.4 and 2.4 GHz applications. It is on air compatible with existing nRF52 Series, nRF51 Series, and nRF24 Series products. It I built around an ARM Cortex-M4F CPU and has 1MB of flash and 256kB of RAM. An extended range of peripherals are available on this SOC that also includes QSPI, NFC-A tag support and an ARM CryptoCell 310 cryptographic accelerator for high performance security on chip. This device has a wide voltage supply range from 5.5v to 1.7v and has 48 GPIO available in a 7mm x 7mm AQFN package.
The nRF52840 DK is a versatile single board development kit for Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth Low Energy, ANT, 802.15.4 and 2.4GHz proprietary applications using the nRF52840 SoC.
The kit is hardware compatible with the Arduino Uno Revision 3 standard, making it possible to use 3rd-party shields that are compatible to this standard. An NFC antenna can be connected the kit to enable NFC tag functionality. The kit gives access to all I/O and interfaces via connectors and has 4 LEDs and 4 buttons which are user-programmable. It includes a USB interface connected to the nRF52840 as well as a QSPI flash for data storage.
A range of software examples are available from the nRF5 Software Development Kit (SDK) to support Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth 5), ANT and 2.4GHz applications.
