The NetModule Connectivity Suite is a modular web-based management platform for the NetModule routers. The multi-customer capability and user management enables an easy implementation of company and project. Through a unified API, the Connectivity Suite can be extended with additional components.
The central component of the Connectivity Suite is the lean device management that simplifies the inventory, roll-out and maintenance of the routers. A list of all devices provides a first overview and access to other useful information such as product type, firmware version and online status.
With the Connectivity Suite, NetModule devices can also be grouped. These groups help to sort the devices and to simplify the distribution of configurations and firmware updates. Individual devices or device groups can in turn be assigned to individual users or user groups.
The VPN server component adds a private VPN server using OpenVPN. To manage the communication, devices can also be grouped and rules and configurations then be applied to these groups. OpenVPN can be used in two modes: routing and bridging.
Routing is the simplest form of VPN and creates a secure encrypted tunnel on layer 3 (IP) between NetModule router and VPN server.
Bridging allows the tunneling of Ethernet packets on layer 2. This allows the VPN clients to be connected transparently to a real, physical network. For example, a service technician can connect remotely and work exactly as if he were on site.
Starting up the personal VPN requires only a few simple steps in the web-based configuration. The configurations for the routers and certificates are generated automatically and distributed via the device management. The routers connect themselves independently into the personal VPN.
The Connectivity Suite and routers use proven encryption technologies such as OpenVPN, SSL and IPsec in combination with certificates and strong encryption. This ensures confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of all exchanged data.
