Embedded power solutions are customized power supplies that are integrated into the core of a device. They can be a combination of units, for example: AC/DC or DC/DC-supply, charging management, host and user-interfaces.
Additional custom accessories such as speakers, alarm signals, displays or attachment parts can be integrated.
A current Embedded Power Solution is the power management module RRC PMM240. This module has been designed to complement our existing line of Standard Smart Batteries. By using this module into your application, you reduce development time and save development costs.
The power management module RRC PMM240 offers four different operating modes:
• Managing power to the device and also charging of the battery
• Allowing the device to be powered solely from the battery
• Sending power to the host device only (fully charged battery)
• Turbo Boost mode
The maximum power available to the application is up to 240W with Turbo Boost mode, (192W without) with a maximum charging power of 82W, all on a board size of 60x50mm. One of the main features of the module is the Power Path Switcher, which is responsible for the automatic and seamless switching between the battery and power supply power within the application. Information from the battery and PMM can be read out via a user interface on the SMBus base so that e. g. an application-side boundary of input- and charging-current is adjustable.
The Turbo Boost mode maximizes the exchange between the power supply and battery. If necessary, in parallel to the power supply, the Turbo Boost mode can request up to 10A from the battery, so that the application can be supplied up to 240W max.
