Crossbar.io GmbH is a startup located in Erlangen, Germany. It was founded in 2016 to drive forward the development of the open source Crossbar.io router and to develop and offer commercial services and additional features for enterprise use of the software.
The Crossbar.io messaging router is a central part of the ecosystem for the open Web Application Messaging Protocol (WAMP). The initial design for this was done by one of the founders of the company. The protocol covers all required communication patterns between components in distributed applications, bridging both devices and programming languages. It is suited as the connectivity fabric for applications with microservice architectures. in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet, or the real-time Web - using a single technology stack instead of having to combine multiple technologies.
The WAMP ecosystem comprises both open source and commercial offerings. The open source client libraries developed by the community presently cover 15 programming languages. The continued development of the protocol is a community effort and heavily influenced by both implementer and user input. The flexibility regarding choice of programming language and the support from the open source community make WAMP and Crossbar.io an attractive technology for developers to use.
Enterprise users can get additional support through the commercial services offered by Crossbar.io GmbH under the Crossbar Fabric product line. The company presently offers commercial support and licenses for the Crossbar.io router and the Autobahn WAMP client libraries it maintains. A cloud service enabling remote, dynamic configuration and monitoring of Crossbar.io instances deployed by customers is in alpha testing. Clustering of multiple routers, e.g. for load balancing in application with very large numbers of users, is under development. First customers for these services include Continental Automotive and Telstra (Australia).
Security is a key focus during development of the entire supported technology stack. This includes an architecture created from the ground up with security in mind as well as the use of up-to-date cryptography.
Crossbar.io GmbH presently has a team of seven employees, which include the key developers of the Crossbar.io router.
