Last week, during a meeting, our Japanese manufacturer JCC presented the Micro UPS-J Series to us. Thanks to its long back up time, this series can be used as substitution of (rechargeable) batteries, in contrast to usual capacitors. Since it is an integrated module with a given circuit design, additional assembling on PCB is not necessary. The UPS-J series is ideal for being embedded in a system which is dedicated to extend duration and to save energy. These capacitors can be used in power-saving wireless applications, sensors, USB electrical power supplies and IoTs.

The system always needs a DC-DC converter.
During normal situations (not in case of a black out), VOUT gets power through the by-pass (D1).
At the same time, EDLC is charged through Charger. (by-pass circuit)
When black out occurs, upper stream is stopped because VIN is stopped.
Instead of VIN, EDLC gives power to VOUT through DC/DC Converter.
CHG terminal is for connecting charge status pin. When it is charging, the LED is lit.
When charging is finished, LED turns off.
