"Rugged" is a term used to refer to Innodisk’s innovation in DRAM hardware design, and in particular, how the design of DRAM is customized to specific application requirements. Rugged design customization plays a very important role in the success of applications, and it is key for solving technical issues during the design process and ensuring reliability in extreme conditions.
Our rugged design customization is not limited only to the redesign and relayout of DRAM modules. It also includes the use of different materials and connectors that work effectively with the printed circuit board (PCB), resulting in more durable and reliable applications.
An Example of DRAM Module Customization—Rugged SODIM (RSODIMM)
Innodisk’s RSODIMM is a customized DRAM module for system designers who focus on aerospace, transportation, robotics, and numeric controller PC-focused applications. This customized design enables RSODIMM to be highly resistant to shock and vibration, providing more reliable performance for applications.
In addition, this module has successfully passed vibration tests of up to 15G per MIL-STD-202G and is already being incorporated into many specially designed machines, such as military vehicles and fighter planes. Benefits of RSODIMM:
- Innodisk’s RSODIMM has extended the width of the existing JEDEC SODIMM standard from perpendicular to the connector by various optional dimensions. These extended dimensions come with a pair of newly added mounting holes to attach the modules to the host CPU board securely.
- RSODIMM modules are fully compatible with ordinary 144-pin SODIMM modules. This compatibility eliminates the need for costly system redesign, and by leveraging familiar layout techniques, both single-board computers and memory design can be easily adapted to the new format.
- Although not mandated by RSODIMM specifications, Innodisk typically rates RSODIMM products for −40ºC to 85ºC wide temperature operation, conforming coating, and so on, in recognition of the harsh environments in which systems are likely to be used.
