For over 25 years SWINDON Silicon Systems have been developing world class solutions for the Automotive Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) market where we now supply over 50% of the global OEM demand. This design expertise and experience and has now been applied it to the industrial pressure sensing market. Using our proven ultra-low power performance expertise, SWINDON develops bespoke solutions that integrates the ASIC with a MEMS pressure sensor, calibrated together over temperature at the final test, and supplied in a miniature system in package (SiP) for all low to medium industrial pressure sensing applications.

By their very nature and function, industrial pressure sensors tend to be located in difficult environments, as per the TPMS chips, but are expected to perform accurately and without operational failure for many years.  A SWINDON custom design ensures there is no compromise in accuracy or performance.  Our experience enables us to design and deliver accurate custom pressure measuring systems comprising of a mixed signal ASIC with an integrated MEMS sensor, within budget, due to the reuse of our extensive existing IP.

The MEMS sensor and ASIC are calibrated over temperature with the resultant data being stored in the OPT/flash memory. The analogue signal from the sensor is amplified and then converted into a digital signal for onward transmission by the 2/3 wire or RF, dependent wholly upon the customers’ requirements.

Meeting the demands of lower power consumption.

As required by our TPMS family we have to meet the requirement of a 10 year operational life span. Powering a MEMS pressure sensor, microprocessor and RF Transmitter, with a single cell lithium battery so ultra-low power consumption, nominally between 1µW and 5mW, depending on the operational status is required. SWINDON is a leader in the design of ultra-low power circuitry and we have delivered hundreds of millions of devices which are currently fitted to cars across the world which are benefitting from this technology.  That same reliability and performance is inherent in all of our Industrial Pressure Sensor solutions, providing best in class, market leading technology.

The production test and calibration of the MEMS pressure sensor and ASIC over temperature is a key element in ensuring the accuracy of the data output.  By integrating the sensor and ASIC in a single package it is possible to calibrate them simultaneously, therefore increasing the efficiency and saving time and cost at the customers final system manufacture.  With state of the art wafer probe and ATE test facilities at our Wiltshire HQ, we can ensure the highest possible quality control standards are maintained at all times.
