Since 1976, National Instruments (www.ni.com) has equipped engineers and scientists with tools that accelerate productivity, innovation and discovery. NI’s graphical system design approach to engineering provides an integrated software and hardware platform that speeds the development of any system needing measurement and control. The company’s long-term vision and focus on improving society through its technology supports the success of its customers, employees, suppliers and shareholders.

Across multiple disciplines from fusion and atomic research to biomedical engineering, to advanced robotics, researchers and scientists are adopting graphical system design as the approach that accelerates discovery better than any other method. The process of discovery and invention involves creating new tools to measure, control, and visualize the physical world. With graphical system design, researchers can utilize a general purpose customizable engineering platform of software and hardware to rapidly explore possibilities without having to spend undue amounts of time building systems from scratch just to get the instrumentation to study a phenomenon.

Graphical system design helps researchers get to their results faster, whether they’re colliding atoms at CERN or developing next generation cancer detection systems. But the accessibility of graphical system design also levels the playing field for underdog teams that don’t have the funding and resources that star players often receive. For example, at the EcoCAR student competition, only 1 of the 16 finalist teams used graphical system design. Virginia Tech, facing teams with longer histories and more investment, won the competition this past year using graphical system design. Graphical system design accelerates development of systems that need measurement and control, systems that are critical to the success of research and discovery.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, NI has approximately 7,100 employees and direct operations in almost 50 countries. For the past 15 years, FORTUNE magazine has named NI one of the 100 best companies to work for in America.
