System Software Development for Pre-Silicon Designs
This presentation will address the challenges of software development for pre-silicon processor and SoC designs. Embecosm has for many years developed compiler toolchains and more recently operating systems well in advance of customer silicon being available. We'll explore all the different open source techniques we use to model hardware and develop software for new silicon designs, including: - modelling peripherals and processor cores using Verilog, Verilator and QEMU. - producing custom toolchains based on GCC and LLVM - porting and testing bootloaders and operating systems - writing and testing device drivers - providing an SDK for software development teams We will demonstrate the on-going work that Embecosm is doing to define and support an open source 'software development framework' that is uniquely targeted at pre-silicon developers and SoC designers. Throughout we'll illustrate the talk with real customer examples using the RISC-V architecture and software ecosystem.
