Surviving the Flood of Data ? Making Sense of IoT, Machine Learning, and Anomaly Detection
With more embedded devices now part of the Internet of Things (IoT), exponentially more data is made available to plant operators, service providers, and others. This data can provide insight into the operation of the plant; what's going right, and more importantly, what might be going wrong. However, there is almost too much data being generated. The volume of data has already made it impossible for humans to process it in realtime. While AI visualization systems might detect when something might be happening, getting the data from a low-end device securely to the cloud can be difficult, and the number of alerts that need to be evaluated can be a daunting task. This presentation focuses on how a low-end device can pre-analyze the real-time data coming in, learn which streams of data might be abnormal, and allow only potential anomalies to be passed along for further analysis. An IoT communications solution will be discussed that allows these devices to securely off load data from the factory floor up to the cloud, and all points in between.
