SPURV: Running Android on Wayland
Running Android has a lot of benefits; from users being familiar with it, to applications and libraries already existing for it. But getting Android up and running on your particular hardware platform is probably not all that simple. SPURV is a research project with the goal of running Android inside of a container for deployment on embedded platforms. Not only that, but also to provide direct access to the GPU and interoperability with Wayland applications. On a high level SPURV is built on top of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and systemd-nspawn. The host OS, which has to be Linux & Wayland based, is able to run a normal desktop in parallel with SPURV. This enables the user to run for example Libre Office and Fruit Ninja side by side.
