IoT Device and Data Security for uSoC FPGAs at the Edge
The growth of IoT devices creates new SoC feature requirements. FPGAs have traditionally provided ways to fill processor gaps, but have lacked integration of the microprocessor and security cores to enable it as a standalone edge solution. PUF technology enables devices to have a completely unique identity based on the intrinsic properties of the device providing a root of trust for identification and key generation, enabling secure boot and data encryption. Combined with factory provisioning each device is uniquely authenticated. Private keys never leave or stored in the device. Next generation uSoC FPGAs provide programmable fabric and an embedded MCU for interfacing, memory buffering, always on processing and acceleration while a PUF based root of trust provides unclonable security to validate device firmware and encrypt data. These features provide embedded developers an extremely capable and secure device with unprecedented reductions in cost, power and product form factor.
