Improving Interface Adoption and Advancement with Programmable Devices
Adoption of new interfaces on next generation semiconductor devices requires redesign of physical interfaces, link layers and processor core connectivity. These architecture updates often require strategic forecasts beyond current market insight and as a result long development cycles and non-optimal devices. Resolutions to these issues have been seen in current and next generation programmable devices. Bridging between interfaces with FPGAs or fixed function ASICs have traditionally been an early crutch for legacy SoCs adoption. Looking forward, programmable SoCs provide not only a path for early interface adoption, but the ability to provide only the necessary connectivity to the processor core. This allows for real time development of an SoC that is customized for a particular use case. Use cases and unique programmable solutions will be explored for the purpose of this presentation.
