Image Processing Capabilities on Embedded Platforms, their APIs and Required Resources
Many embedded systems nowadays make use of image sensors to solve a high variety of problems. Those are connected directly via MIPI CSI-2 and provide raw image data to the embedded platform. Before running algorithms to solve the actual problem, the image data needs to be pre-processed.This is done by the Image Signal Processor of the platform€™s SoC. The capabilities of available ISPs for different SoCs highly varies from each other. Another aspect is that missing image processing features needs to be implemented in software, which then can be executed on either GPU or CPU. Applying any image processing to either of those would block therefore valuable resources. The technical paper and corresponding presentation analyzes different ISPs, their capabilities and their interfaces. With help of performance and resource measurements those will be compared and how the system can benefit from Alvium camera series is shown.
