High-Performance User Interaction on Low-level Embedded Systems
Compared to desktop computers and mobile devices like smartphones, embedded systems suffer from low-level performance. Although there are many good reasons for this, users of embedded devices expect a similar performance as on the smartphone in their pocket. The authors will show a clever way to overcome this dilemma. Hands on real hardware they explain and demonstrate how user interaction can be of high-performance on low-level embedded systems. The audience will experience two main aspects of user acceptance: an adapted conceptual design of the user interface and a declarative modelling language that is optimised for the underlying technical platform. Despite the technical limitations of the device users shall get the impression of a smooth and performant HMI. The key is to avoid computationally intensive features by design. Nevertheless, it is possible to make careful use even of features like scrolling, zooming, swipe gestures and animations in known applications.
