Designing for Ultra-Low-Power Bluetooth Communication
Optimizing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) applications for low energy consumption can be challenging, so understanding BLE and the underlying system-on-chip (SoC) architecture is important to enable extended battery life. This session provides insight into the Bluetooth Low Energy modes of operation (such as Advertising and Sleep) and different ways to minimize the power consumption of the entire system by providing the right inputs to the stack and how to take advantage of all hardware features of the wireless SoC device. This includes MCU-specific low-power techniques as well as Bluetooth stack-level low-power optimizations. The session will include a real-world application showing the battery lifetime benefits after applying the available low-power design techniques. An additional example will demonstrate a benchmarking framework and how to decode the performance readings obtained with this communication software for edge-node devices.
