Data Modeling for Systems Engineering and System Specification
A datum doesn’t exist in a vacuum; it has relations, of various kinds, to other information. A data model represents these relations as an integral part. In addition, the data itself must be characterized with “metadata” (data about the data) including such things as acceptable or unacceptable values, precision, accuracy, fidelity, timeliness, and availability. Beyond that, data models exist at different levels of abstraction, such as conceptual, logical, and physical. There is also the concern about the best way to represent all this using the SysML. There is a bewildering array of concerns that a good systems engineering data model must address. This talk discusses and provides guidance on structuring the systems engineering data model, representing all the relevant data and metadata, and using it to enhance your understanding of the system under development and to effectively communicate that understanding to others. Presented by the author of the best selling Agile Systems Engineering.
