A Threat and Risk Analysis Methodology for LoRa-based IoT Systems
Cyberattacks and data theft are notoriously prevalent risks in the IoT sphere. Devising a robust security strategy is therefore vital and requires sound security considerations at each step of a project relying on an IoT system. We developed a threat and risk analysis methodology for LoRa-based IoT systems and applied it to an industrial solution for collecting, transmitting, managing and processing data. Both the IoT solution and our security analyses were applied to four use cases: geolocalisation, predictive maintenance, ergonomics, and performance analytics, which were deployed and assessed in several industrial settings (aeronautics, chemical, energy) with specific concerns. Furthermore, we designed a general framework meant to facilitate the classification of IoT systems from a security perspective. In this paper we describe our analysis methodology, provide an overview of the obtained results and security classification and present our conclusions and experience.
