A Major New IoT Security Certification Scheme with Innovative Trust Signals – PSA Certified
IoT devices are appearing everywhere but it is challenging to know if they have been designed with good security principles or how robust they are. If you are installing an IoT device it will be difficult to get an independent assessment of its security features and robustness level; if the device is connected to cloud based services they will have even less visibility of end point security. To solve this problem Arm has worked with test labs and industry partners to create a commonsense approach to security evaluation of IoT chips and devices. This scheme will be first discussed publicly in this presentation at Embedded World. Platform Security Architecture can be used with any processor based chip or device and is especially suited to the growing number of connected microcontrollers. PSA is a complete and freely available set of IoT security building blocks including threat models, open source software, architecture documents and compliance test suites. PSA Certified adds to that with a quick lab based assessment that chips and devices have been built according to sound security principles and that the part of the system that has to be trusted has been well designed and implemented. An innovative aspect of PSA Certified is for devices to provide a standards based 'report card' claim of the PSA Certification level achieved that can be used by relying parties to make risk based judgements.
