Technica Engineering’s MediaConverters establish a physical layer conversion, between automotive ECUs, using 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1, and any device with a RJ45 Network Interface Card (NIC).
Technica’s MediaConverters are available in different formats and form factors for different use cases (EMC, SFP, RJ45, USB-LAN). Hence, through one direct point-to-point conversion, they adapt to customers’ increasing need for speed, safety and efficiency. MediaConverters include a bi-directional communication, as they can be switched to a half or full duplex position.
Our portfolio covers chipsets from mainstream vendors (Broadcom, NXP, Marvell, etc.), providing the customer adaptable and flexible devices for their testing systems.
MediaConverters put Technica Engineering at the peak of automotive Ethernet innovation, being the first marketed products with such features. In 2010, we launched the first BroadR-Reach to Ethernet converter, and, in 2016, we became the pioneers in 1000BASE-T1 technology integration in vehicle communication, by introducing, for the first time in history, a 1000BASE-T1 physical layer converter. Additionally, we developed an USB 100BASE-T1 Converter, which captured unique features and determined, as well, our meaningful role in innovation and R&D of solutions within our domain: automotive ethernet.

At Technica Engineering, we have been developing Automotive Ethernet solutions since 2008. We have been assisting global automobile manufacturers and suppliers, such as BMW, Audi, Continental and Bosch, with development and testing projects for the validation of vehicle technology systems.
Through our four departments, we have become the pioneer in the integration of Automotive Ethernet as a communication technology inside the automobile. In 2012, we assisted BMW with its in-vehicle introduction of 100BASE-T1 technology; and, in 2016, we cooperated in a project with Audi, for which we developed the first 1000BASE-T1 Media Converter and, therefore, became the first company globally to develop a device with such characteristics.
Our innovative Automotive Ethernet hardware and software solutions allow our customers to extensively and efficiently test modern on-board electronic components and networks during their development. Our best market reputation comes from the combination of the adequate bandwidths (100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1) with the most efficient technologies, such as CAN/CAN-FD, FlexRay, LIN and analogue interfaces. From this combination, we’ve developed, for more than a decade, innovative products that have achieved the best market performance and conformance. Some hardware examples are our MediaGateway, 1000BASE-T1 MediaConverter, or 100BASE-T1 Media Converter EMC, which combined with our main software, ANDi (Automotive Network Diagnoser), provide the customer the ideal testing equipment combination.
In close cooperation with our customers, our Research and Development department develops tailored solutions that are innovative, reliable and flexible. As pioneers in innovation in Automotive Ethernet, we’ve come up with a unique solution for the support of the most relevant in-vehicle communication: The Capture Modules. Through AVB/TSN compatibility and a modular and scalable system, Technica’s Capture Modules are the ideal testing tool for today’s self-driving prototype test cars. Using 802.1AS, the time synchronization within the Capture Module is ensured, and all captured traffic is provided in layer II MAC frames via the PLP protocol, making Ethernet the ideal logging network. They provide time aware injection and, to adapt to customers’ needs, Capture Modules are offered in different bus systems, such as CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet, 100BASE-T1,1000BASE-T1, FlexRay, RS232 and analogue.
