NEW Ka-Ro TX8X Computer-on-Module with NXP i.MX 8X
Ka-Ro announces a new COM based on the NXP i.MX 8X multicore processor. This new processor includes two to four ARM® Cortex®-A35 cores. The i.MX 8X family is highly integrated to support graphics, video, image processing and voice functions. Suitable for safety-certifiable requirements, typical applications for the NXP i.MX 8X include industrial automation and control, HMI, robotics, building control, automotive and telematics applications.
The Ka-Ro TX8X COM includes a processor, power supply and memory, providing a complete computer for integration into embedded systems. As part of the TX family, the TX8X conforms to the TX standard, so it provides an easy upgrade from earlier generation TX modules in the TX5 and TX 6 families, and for new projects that need a modern ARM core with high processor performance, with guaranteed 12-year availability, ensuring product shipments through 2030.
The new TX8X is part of the Ka-Ro TX Family Concept. In 2008, Ka-Ro defined the TX form factor, a standard for COMs that provides a standard interface across multiple modules with a range of performance. The TX family concept makes it easy to upgrade or create a common platform at different performance levels and optimizing a BOM for the lowest possible cost.
TX8X COMs based include a range of performance, with i.MX 8 DualX, DualXPlus and QuadXPlus processors, with RAM ranging from 512MB – 2GB DDR3L memory and 4GB eMMC Flash. The TX8X supports industrial operating temperature, from -25 to 85C.
In addition to 2-4 ARM Cortex-A35 cores, the NXP i.MX 8X includes an integrated ARM Cortex M4 for real-time processing. The Cortex M4 is accessible in the TX pinout and can be used for real-rime I/O control or power management, monitoring conditions and waking the main processor as needed to reduce overall power consumption.
The TX8X includes flexible display and cameral interfaces, providing MIPI DSI or LVDS interfaces supported by a Vivante GC7000 Series GPU. Camera interfaces include 4-lane MIPI CSI2, and a single parallel 8-bit CSI.
Connectivity support includes 10/100MBps Ethernet, 2-USB, 2-CAN, 4-UART, 8-I2C, 4-SPI, 1-PCIe 3.0, and 3.3V I/O.
Ka-Ro will provide a complete Linux BSP for the TX8X, with support for Mainline Embedded Linux.

Family Concept – Ka-Ro TX COMs
All Ka-Ro’s TX modules conform to the TX Standard. Created in 2003, The TX Standard designates common pins for display interfaces, common industrial ports (serial, CAN, I2C, I/O etc.) TX modules can be easily interchanged, making it easy to upgrade performance or optimize BOM cost. Ka-Ro software BSPs make application code easily transferable as well.

Automated testing procedures are applied to each module produced, and a complete record is maintained in a permanent quality database. When a Ka-Ro module is designed into a customer product, Ka-Ro’s quality processes ensure a trouble-free product lifetime. Ka-Ro will not substitute components, so a standard Bill of Material provides complete component traceability. If a component on the BOM is updated, customers receive a Product Change Notification notice, an opportunity to make a Last-Time Buy, and time test and certify the revised module. Ka-Ro will not ship revised hardware without prior customer approval.
Building on this foundation of proven quality, Ka-Ro has developed a deep expertise in COM design and software development.
