Happy winners: embedded AWARDS presented
The embedded AWARDS in the categories hardware, software and tools were presented during the opening event of the exhibition by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Sturm, Chairman of the embedded world Exhibition Committee, and Bernd A. Diederichs, Managing Director of NürnbergMesse.
The winner in the hardware category was Energy Micro EFM32 – the world’s most energy friendly microcontrollers
Energy Micro’s new EFM32 microcontroller family again shows the great potential of the embedded industry. The new EFM32 controller family introduced in October last year consumes only a quarter of the energy of other 8-, 16- and 32-bit controllers for the same computing power. This can extend the lifetime of mobile devices by up to four times. The EFM32 controller family is the most energy-efficient controller solution currently available on the market and rightly deserves the embedded AWARD 2010.
Mentor Graphics Inflexion GUI technology for Android is the winner in the software category
Mentor Graphics Inflexion GUI technology for Android considerably cuts development times for mobile GUIs. The software gives programmers coding reliability and allows more attractive and user-friendly applications. A remarkable feature of Inflexion is that the application code for functionality need not be changed for a new GUI.
The winner in the tools category is Hitex Development Tools with its PowerScale tool
Development tools offer traditional optimization processes for minimum memory requirement or maximum computing power. With the PowerScale solution, Hitex presents the possibility of measuring the energy consumption of an application at up to four places simultaneously and assigning to individual software sequences. Hitex’s PowerScale now provides a development tool that enables the developer to optimize his own application for minimum energy consumption on the basis of measured results. Hitex makes a key contribution to the development of environment-friendly embedded systems with this tool.
The Special Merits Award receives Atmel Corporation with maXTouch
Atmel's maXTouch technology will give consumers a human-to-machine experience that has not been available until now. The mXT224 is the first capacitive touchscreen solution able to support not just finger touch but also stylus, fingernails and gloves for drawing or character recognition. This advanced solution is achieved by the increased signal-to-noise ratio of 80:1, which is 66 % better than former chips. The higher sampling rate allows an innovative touch screen solution for simultaneous use of 10 fingers.
